First public safety manager named at New Kensington campus

Among the responsibilities of Wesley Sheets, Penn State New Kensington's new public safety manager, is security for students, faculty, staff and guests at campus events, such as the annual student awards ceremony.

Wesley Sheets has been named to the newly created position of Public Safety Manager at Penn State New Kensington.

Sheets, a former director of judicial affairs at High Point University, will supervise the campus’ security staff and is responsible for Clery Act compliance, investigations of criminal and non-criminal complaints, and enforcing laws, regulations and policies. In addition, Sheets will serve as the emergency response coordinator for the campus.

The Moon Township resident joins the campus staff after serving two years as a detective and police officer at Robert Morris University. Prior to Robert Morris, Sheets was a police officer, school resource officer and DARE instructor for the borough of California. He has numerous certifications, including Pennsylvania Act 120, Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Instructor, FEMA Certified Emergency Response and Planning, Non Violent Crisis Intervention, and HAZMAT Awareness.

Sheets earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from California University of Pennsylvania before graduating from the Allegheny County Police Training Academy. He is active in the community and is a firefighter for the California Volunteer Fire Department where he holds the rank of second lieutenant.
