SOPHOMORE FORWARD LEADS
LIONS TO TWO VICTORIES
Penn State New Kensington sophomore forward Michael Killian was named the Penn State University Athletic Conference men’s soccer Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 10.
Killian, a graduate of Highlands High School, scored both goals in a 2-1 opening day victory over non-conference foe Westmoreland County Community College and tallied the decisive goal in a 2-1 defeat of PSUAC rival Penn State Mont Alto. The business administration major assisted on the other New Kensington goal.
On the year, Killian is the team’s leading scorer and the conference’s second leading scorer with six goals. Killian’s scoring prowess has helped first-year coach Jordan Valentine’s squad to a 3-0 PSUAC record and a 4-1 overall mark. The New Kensington Lions sit atop the standings, tied with Penn State York, 3-0. The two teams meet in the final regular season game on Oct. 12 at the New Kensington campus soccer complex.
After road trips to Waynesburg University (Sept. 25) and Penn State Brandywine (Sept. 29), the New Kensington Lions return home to face LaRoche College (4 p.m., Oct. 2) and Penn College (1 p.m., Oct. 6).
