The Recreational Athletics and Fitness program at Penn State New Kensington is dedicated to providing the University community the opportunity to participate in recreation, sports, and fitness activities with the emphasis on fair play, healthy living, and development of proper social skills. The goal of the program is to provide students with an all-encompassing campus recreation program in a modern recreation facility.
Our sports program started in 1958, the year the campus was founded, when basketball became the first club team. Men's basketball became the first intercollegiate sport in 1966 when the campus moved to its present location. Since then, the athletic program has grown to four intercollegiate sports. The teams compete in the Penn State University Athletic Conference and against regional four-year institutions. Intramural and club sport teams have long been a tradition at the campus. Currently our club teams compete locally with other institutions and our roller hockey team is an official member of the National Roller Hockey League Association competing across Pennsylvania as well as in surrounding states.
Our athletics and fitness programs are conducted as an integral part of the total educational experience by promoting healthy lifestyles, leadership, and individual discipline associated with a positive competitive endeavor. Students are invited to take advantage of the myriad of fitness programs available including the weight and fitness center, open gym activities, racquetball courts, varsity sports, club sports, intramurals and health-related programs.
